Staff development at Progreso North Elementary is typically done in whole groups. All teachers from Pre-K through 5th grade levels are called into the cafeteria or library to attend a staff development.

- Since most staff development occurs on days when students don't have class or have early release, teacher attendance and participation is high.
- Teachers and staff have an opportunity to provide feedback to presenters at the end of the training.
- Presenters are well prepared and well informed on the subject matter in the staff development.
- Presenters take and answer questions effectively during staff development.
- Staff development is typically conducted in large groups sometimes consisting of 50 or more teachers per presenter.
- Staff development that is conducted is usually "low-tech," as in teachers and staff might not necessarily have access to technology.
- Staff development usually lacks hands on training and is typically teacher centered.
- Presenters sometimes use PowerPoint exclusively to conduct professional development.
- Teachers and staff are not given many opportunities to provide continual feedback such as in ongoing professional development.
